In "Grow Up," players assume control of BUD, a wobbly robot on a mission to collect her scattered ship parts across an alien planet. After MOM's spaceship disintegrates and its pieces scatter far and wide, it becomes BUD’s task to gather these components and return them to the moon. Joined by POD, a planetary enthusiast who enjoys finding new worlds, players explore a vibrant alien landscape teeming with flora and fauna.

The gameplay involves navigating through diverse environments by transforming BUD into Ball mode to boost movement or using the Power Glider to soar between floating islands like a giant metal bird. The Floradex 3000 allows players to manipulate plants they encounter, providing tools to overcome various obstacles. Giant Starplants offer an opportunity to ride them for quick travel to other high points on the planet.

Each part of MOM’s spaceship has unique challenges, requiring exploration and strategic use of BUD's abilities. This includes interacting with a curious Flungus that adds unexpected twists to each journey. The game encourages experimentation and adaptability as players must think creatively to access all parts of the planet and reassemble the ship.
